Variables are placeholders that Signalsant fills in for each company when the email is sent. Insert one from the Variables list in the Email Studio's Settings panel, or type {{ in any field.
Syntax
| You write | What it does |
|---|---|
{{company.name}} |
The company's name. |
{{company.city | "your area"}} |
The city, or "your area" if it's empty. |
{{url:company.name}} |
The value encoded for use inside a link. |
{{href:company.url}} |
A whole link. It's filled in only with a full web address. |
{{#if contact.first_name}}Hi {{contact.first_name}}{{else}}Hi there{{/if}} |
Different text depending on whether a value is known. |
{{#unless company.phone}}…{{/unless}} |
Text shown only when a value is empty. |
Conditions can be nested up to three levels deep. An empty value without a fallback becomes blank, so add a fallback wherever a blank would read badly. In the Studio, click Fallback… next to a variable, or use If a field is empty….

Good to know
- Only the variables above exist. You can't create custom variables.
- Signalsant doesn't add an unsubscribe link for you. Add your own wording if you need one.
- Older names such as
{{company_name}}still work.
Troubleshooting
- "Unknown variable": the name isn't in the list above. Check the spelling.
- "Malformed placeholder": use
{{variable}}or{{variable | "fallback"}}, with straight double quotes around the fallback. - The preview shows blanks: click Sample data above the preview and pick a real company, and turn on Missing data to check your fallbacks.
